British artist Anne Hardy constructs life-size sets that are rich in detail using a variety of materials often found in the street or in second-hand shops that hold precise position in her work. In each case, the result of this process is a single photograph, as the installations are then dismantled again.

Mickalene Thomas is currently exhibiting her series of art-historically inspired collaged photographs at Lehman Maupin Gallery in New York. She says of her work, “When I’m working with a historical image, I use photography as a way of capturing and reinterpreting the image. I take photographs and use them to create collages that further complicate my relationship with the historical source image.”

Here are a few images from Cornelia Hediger's new series "Doppelganger II" recently on view at Klompching Gallery in New York. According to the press release, "With this newly released series of photographs, Hediger continues her exploration of the uncanny, constructing complex pictorial narratives into segmented tableau vivants, consisting of up to eighteen individual photographs combined into a single composition."

Ruud van Empel (1958) is one of the most extraordinary photographic artists of this moment, both nationally and internationally. From hundred of fragments adopted from digital photos, he compiles new images that seem very life-like and realistic, but also conjure up a world that has never existed. resurrection of documentary . . .

Los Angeles based artist William E. Jones has created this visually frustrating animation from rejected negatives. The photos were originally taken by Farm Security Administration photographers to document the American depression. FSA head Roy Stryker performed the editing with a hole punch.
